Waking up on Sunday and finding out it finally stopped raining was amazing. But it was going to be an overcast day and a little chilly, oh well might as well make the best of it. Time to wake the girls and head downstairs for our free breakfast.

The Good

We had already planned on going to The Lost Cave so we were pretty excited that the rain stopped. When we got there we had to go into the gift shop to check in and pay for the underground boat tour. Well guess what? All the rain = rising water =delay of opening for the boat ride. We were told maybe it would open at noon if the water receded. No worries they gave us a map of the area and we headed out on a hike, it’s free to walk around the grounds. We just planned on going back to the gift shop after the hike to see if the boat ride would open and we would pay for it then. The Lost Cave has around 2 miles of hiking trails. During the Civil War this area was occupied by both sides at different times. There are little stone houses along some of the trails,  these are called powder houses and were used to store dynamite.

There is also a butterfly habitat along the trails, when we were there we didn’t get to see any I hope you do. After our walk around the beautiful grounds we headed back up to the gift shop to pay for our boat ride. We should have went ahead and reserved our spot when we were up there because by the time we got back all spots were filled all the way up until 3:00 pm. But that was ok,the girls decided they would do some treasure mining.  The bags of mining materials went from $6.95 all the way to $25.00 we just got the $6.95 bag and there was plenty in it. So that ended up saving us a lot of money. The boat ride would have cost around $80.00 for the 4 of us. Although I’m sure it is worth it and The Lost River Cave is anon profit organization and 100% of all proceeds go to preserve the area.  So we did the mining and got my magnet (I have been collected from places we visit) and we spent under $12.00. Other activities to do include geocaching, bird watching, and bird bingo. There is also a donation box on the gift shop desk that we put a small donation in. The Lost Cave is absolutely beautiful, even in the crappy weather we had. I’m thinking we will take another tip down when we know the weather will be decent. If you are planning a trip to Bowling Green don’t miss out on this spot.

I was trying to find somewhere to eat for dinner most of the day and ended up settling on a place called Cheddars, and I’m so glad I did. The wait time was minimal, our waitress was fantastic, and the food was absolutely delicious. The meals were reasonable priced and you can find something to eat for everyone. At the end of our meal the manager came out and gave us free cookies because we had never been to a Cheddars before. Our total bill for 4 people $57.38,  which also included an appetizer. If you haven’t eaten at a Cheddars I recommend it. I only took  picture here I’m not sure why, maybe because I was enjoying the place and the food, but these fans were cool.

The Bad

None of the places we visited on Sunday made the bad list. I would however put the weather on the bad list. It was a chilly, windy, overcast day all day! Oh, and don’t visit the Kentucky Museum on Sunday it’s not open even though it says it’s open Sunday 1-4 in the travel brochure.

The OK

Flea Land and Antique Mall is described as Kentucky’s largest indoor flea market. We went mostly because of the crappy weather but it was a huge flea market. It is open everyday so if your in Bowling Green and not having good weather stop in. It’s worth going to, it has everything there, stuff you are either looking or not looking for. It has food there too although we didn’t eat any it smelled pretty good. Total money spent here $0.00

Then we stopped at Chaney’s Dairy Barn again another ok place. I don’t know what I was expecting for this  place but it was kind of blah. But they do have fantastic ice cream, if you go just get 1 scoop its plenty we did spend $12.24 on 4 scoops of ice cream a little pricey but we haven’t spent much money. If you go out back there is a huge playground and our girls as old as they are had fun on it. There is also a restaurant, we did eat there, a wagon ride, a live milking demonstration, and information about cows. If I ever go back to Bowling Green in nice weather I would probably go back so I could do these other things.

Just Joel and I went to Aviation Heritage park the girls were to cold by this point so we dropped them off at the hotel. It is another free place to walk around. It has an Air ForceF-4D Phantom, a Blue Angels airplane, a NASAT-38 Talon and a few more. You can walk around and if touch them. We peaked in a huge tent they had on site and there was a helicopter in there they were restoring so that was pretty cool.

Even though we had lousy weather the whole time we were in Bowling Green, it was nice to get away for a weekend with the family and visit a place we have never been to before. I have already started on our next trip and it happened kind of suddenly, so stay tuned.
