As it continued to rain throughout the day on Saturday indoor activities were the only way to go. Luckily I had already picked out a couple of indoor places in the planning stage. So this is how I came up with the segment of the good, the bad the OK. We visited enough places to be able to do this for Saturday and  Sunday.

The Good

The Quail Hollow Candle Factory and Gift Shop will take the first spot on The Good. It is a cute little homey craft store about 30 miles from Bowling Green. It is located at 455 Andrew Jackson Hwy Adolphus, Kentucky 42120. There are signs along the way to get there so just follow them right on in. When you walk in the front door you will be greeted by huge displays of crafts and candles. There is probably every type of craft and candle you can imagine. If you can’t find what you are looking for just go ask the owner Tee, she can probably find it. Tee is  very friendly and knowledgeable of the area. She gave us many ideas of places to go to stay out of the rain and had pamphlets to give us so we could find them. Our youngest daughter is obsessed with candles so she bought one and it smells amazing. There are many one of a kind candles here, I encourage you to stop in anytime you are in the area. Go to the website and check it out http://www.quailhollowwax.com/

The Greenwood Mall is located right in Bowling Green and it is a good place to spend some time when all it does is rain. This mall looks really small from the outside and the parking lot was packed. I’m sure all of Bowling Green was there because of the rain. When you go inside you realize it is not a small mall at all, it is actually quite  big. By looking at the parking lot you would have thought it was going to be overcrowded inside, it was not at all. There are around 100 stores, a  decent size food  court, and even has a large carousel inside. There are  a lot of unique stores in Greenwood Mall, it was nice not seeing the same stores that are in our mall at home. Definitely make a stop in you will not be disappointed.

The last of  the good for Saturday is Freddys Frozen Custard and Steakburgers also located right in Bowling Green, pretty much across the street from the mall. We stopped here for lunch and it was the first money we spent on food. When we pulled up it just looked like a steak and shake from the outside but when you go in you just order at the counter like a fast food restaurant. The food was very good and all of us enjoyed our meals. We all ordered a combo meal, so it came with a sandwich, fries, and a drink. I got the Chicago dog combo, if you don’t like spicy order it without the sport peppers. The hotdog was all beef and was  very fresh and tasty, the french fries were the shoe string type and they were also very fresh. They also have a “special sauce” for the fries it seemed  to be mayo and ketchup mixed,3 out of 4 of us liked it, it is at the counter where you pick up your food. My combo meal was less than $6.00 so it was pretty reasonable priced. Joel had the double patty melt combo and the girls ordered double cheeseburger and grilled chicken sandwich combos. All of their combos were in the $7.00 range. The total spent for 4 people for lunch was $29.32. Freddy’s has good food at a reasonable price. We give them 4 thumbs up.

The Bad

There are two places that made the bad list and trust me don’t waste your time going to either one of these places.

The first one is the Fruit of the Loom outlet store. This place had a weirdly quiet atmosphere. There were no customers in this store which should have given us a clue to just leave. You would think with the rain every place in  Bowling Green would have people in it. None of the prices were what you would consider “outlet” prices. Not even 1 employee there acknowledged we were even in there. We spent maybe a total of 10 minutes in there, so this is a small review. P.S The bathrooms were nice.

Do not, I repeat do not waste your money at Jumbo Buffet located at 1555 Campbell Lane Bowling Green, KY. I did read the reviews before going there and I thought surely it can’t be that bad, boy was I wrong it was just as described in the online reviews. The food was alright, no one got  sick or died from it. When we first went in we were greeted by the hostess and was seated in a booth. The booth that we were sat in had a huge hole right in the middle so deep that you could see the springs. The rest of the place wasn’t terribly dirty so we decided we would just go ahead and stay. The food was below average tasting Chinese buffet food. The total dinner bill for 4 people was $42.36, which was about $20.00 to much for this establishment. I have always enjoyed the show Restaurant Impossible, this place really needs some Robert Irvine in its life. Just to sum it up, do not waste your time or money going here.

The OK

The Red Roof Inn located in Bowling Green would be described by me as satisfactory or just OK.  The check in procedure was pretty quick and painless. The rooms were very clean but they did have a smell of cigarette smoke in them, even though the rooms were marked as non smoking rooms. The continental breakfast was just like any other hotel continental breakfast. They had scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, bread with a toaster, cereal, fruit, coffee, and orange juice. The total we spent was $250.00 which was a good price for 2 rooms,  2 days and 2 nights, that included  breakfast for 2 mornings.

Saturday was a pretty good day even though it rained all day long and into the night. We made the best out of it. I had the plan pretty much set for what we were going to do on Sunday. Went to bed hoping that when we woke up on Sunday the rain would be gone…
